Enabling Digital Transformation with IT-CMF

The opportunities that the technologies associated with ‘Digital’ are presenting can only be taken advantage of if organisations have the capability to do so. The changes are significant and are reflected in the optimum use of technologies and in new ways of working and structure. These changes need to be understood and implemented within the organisation.

Our event will consist of a morning conference and an afternoon focus on Research and Development. In the morning, we will address the following: –

  • How we see organisations developing a successful Digital Transformation Programme, leveraging the IT-CMF. A combination of training and assessment to build knowledge and accurately determine current capabilities.
  • Overall readiness, Cloud adoption, and Cybersecurity specifically
  • Three organisations will describe their journey to date leveraging IT-CMF
  • Present details of our assessment and survey results on the current state of readiness of organisations as they plan, or just worry about Digital transformation

In the afternoon during the Research and Development focus, IVI will share it’s continuing work to bring the most recent thinking and practices into the IT-CMF, with a particular focus on DevOps and on the competencies needed by organisations for the many new tasks and roles need to build digital capability.

Description: Organizations seek to gain greater understanding of and insights into more and more massive quantities of data collected and stored in disparate public and private databases.  Rapid advances in data science methods and data analytics tools support in-depth analyses of these structured and unstructured data from multiple perspectives. As firms seek to maximize the utility of emerging data science technologies to organize and investigate complex, massive data sets, they are looking for innovative approaches to leverage and apply this gained knowledge to the design of purposeful and transformative digital artifacts and solutions. We propose that the effective and efficient integration of data science methods and design science methods provides an iterative, rigorous approach for the diagnosing, design, implementation, deployment, and evolution of transformative digital technologies. Several case study examples illustrate our new approach.

Speaker Bios:

Alan Hevner, Distinguished University Professor, Muma College of Business, University of South Florida
Alan R. Hevner is a Distinguished University Professor and Eminent Scholar in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida. He holds the Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology. Dr. Hevner’s areas of research interest include design science research, information systems development, software engineering, distributed database systems, healthcare systems, and Internet of Things computing.  He has published over 200 research papers on these topics and has consulted for a number of Fortune 500 companies. Dr. Hevner received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University. He has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland and the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hevner is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and INFORMS.  Additional honors include selection as a Parnas Fellow at Lero, the Irish software research center, a Schoeller Senior Fellow at Friedrich Alexander University in Germany, and a recipient of the Design Science Research Lifetime Achievement Award. From 2006 to 2009, he served as a program manager at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate.

Matt Mullarkey, Director of DBA Program and Instructor, Muma College of Business, University of South Florida
Matthew T. Mullarkey is the Director of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Program for the USF Muma College of Business and an Instructor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS) Department. He received a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of South Florida, an MBA from the University of South Carolina, an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy (West Point). Dr. Mullarkey’s areas of research interest include design science research and action research in the evaluation and creation of information systems, healthcare systems, social networking systems, and data science. He teaches using case based discussions that engage Doctoral, MBA and MIS undergraduates in complex business decisions that typically involve a technology component. Dr. Mullarkey is the Editor‐in‐Chief of the USF Muma Case Review and an editor and reviewer for a number of academic journals.

Matt Craig, Head of Performance & Value Management, BNY Mellon
Matt is an international speaker, coach, instructor, and certified change catalyst for strategic and sustainable organizational improvement. As Head of Performance and Value Management at BNY Mellon, Matt applies his expertise in strategy management, value management, service management, process improvement, and agile program management to drive long term capability improvement.
Matt has led the committed adoption of capability improvement at BNY Mellon, resulting in dozens of global teams improving the quality, relevance, business value and satisfaction with technology related services. Organizational transformation is a challenging journey, and Matt has been blessed to work with dedicated and skilful teams, leaders, and executives to create a stronger, agile enterprise.

Tom Moroney, Higher Executive Officer in the HR & ICT Training, Office of the Revenue Commissioners
Tom is an experienced Civil Servant working within the Office of the Revenue Commissioners for the past 18 years.  He has operated in a number of divisions, including Customs Enforcement and the ICT division. He is currently working as a Higher Executive Officer in the HR & ICT training unit of the ICT&L Division.  He had a key input in designing and developing our Continuous Professional Development Framework that was recently launched. He has a keen interest in Learning and Development initiatives, workforce planning and succession planning.


John MacHale, Consulting Director,  NashTech
John runs the Digital Readiness Consulting Practice within NashTech. With a background in technology consultancy across a range of industries he leads the NashTech consulting team to deliver business value based engagements to clients to ensure their IT investments deliver the maximum return on investment .

Parking at Maynooth University

The permit restrictions on campus have been lifted for the summer months so guests can park in any available staff/student space.  The nearest carpark to the School of Education Building is carpark 14. Please see Campus Map 2017 for further details.

Travelling by air to Dublin

Maynooth lies just 33km south-west of Dublin Airport, around 40 minutes travel time by car. Over 50 airlines operate from 170 destinations to Dublin Airport, with up to 600 flights per day. Travel by car

Maynooth is situated 25km from Dublin city centre. Take junction 7 (signposted Maynooth/Straffan/Naas) off the M4 and follow the signs to Maynooth.  To reach the North Campus, take the left in the centre of the town, then turn right, take the next left and the entrance is on your right.

Travel by train

Maynooth lies on the Western Suburban railway line which serves the four Dublin city centre stations (Pearse Station, Tara St, Connolly Station and Docklands) as well as twelve other suburban stations; Drumcondra, Broombridge, Ashtown, Navan Rd. Parkway, Castleknock, Coolmine, Clonsilla, Hansfield, Dunboyne, M3 Parkway, Leixlip Confey and Leixlip Louisa Bridge, making it a quick and convenient way to get to Maynooth University.
This railway line also serves: Sligo, Collooney, Ballymote, Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Dromod, Longford, Edgeworthstown, Mullingar, Enfield, Kilcock.
The South Campus is approximately five minutes walk from Maynooth train station and the North Campus approximately ten minutes walk.

Travel by bus

Dublin Bus
Maynooth is served by two Dublin Bus routes – the 66 and the 67. Both of these buses depart from Merrion Square in Dublin and run frequent services to the town. The 66x is an express service.
