Post Doctoral Researcher / Senior Post Doctoral Researcher Position to Develop a State-of-the-art Population-Based Data Analytics System

We are seeking to recruit a Post-doctoral researcher or a Senior Post-doctoral researcher to contribute to the development of a state-of-the-art population-based analytic data system that serves multiple needs of decision support, population monitoring, and comparative effectiveness research The position is based at the Innovation Value Institute at Maynooth University and will involve working with the RCSI School of Population Health and Department of General Practice, and with Centric Health primary care practice data group.

The project presents a unique opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary group of researchers collaborating across several research groups. The project involves a unique consortium of academic, data ethics and protection experts, health system, and public health, as innovators to develop a multi-purpose registry that simultaneously serves population monitoring and management, clinical and patient decision-making to prevent and manage diabetes and reduce the burden of its complication.
Position:
Administrative and other duties which will include:
- Design and develop a trusted research data environment including specifying the technical requirements, standard procedures, and policies for secondary analyses of primary healthcare data for research
- Research, Design and create the architecture, structure, elements, and definitions for an observational medical outcomes partnership (OMOP) common data model (CDM), including standard definitions and variables and develop supporting documentation
- Collaborate with IT specialists and clinical staff to design and implement secure and scalable database solutions that accommodate large volumes of electronic health records
- Data integration and management: Develop an approach to ensure seamless linkage, integration and management of health data from various sources, maintaining high standards of data quality and integrity
- Documentation and training: Develop comprehensive documentation for database systems and conduct training sessions for users to ensure proper use and understanding of the system
- Compliance and ethics coordination: Manage and oversee data privacy and security in line with GDPR and other relevant regulations
- Stakeholder engagement: Work closely with clinical partners, healthcare providers, and research teams to align database management strategies with project goals
- Technical support and troubleshooting during the pilot phase: Provide technical expertise to end-users of the database system, resolving issues and ensuring optimal system performance
- Project management: Be responsible for the operational management of the project ensuring the successful project execution, including overseeing the timeline and deliverables of the database aspects of the project, ensuring milestones are met and aligned with the broader project objectives
- Develop and/or contribute to preparation of peer-reviewed publications, reports/policy briefs and presentations to stakeholders
- Explore exploitation opportunities and develop and support funding applications for subsequent projects
Requirements and Eligibility:
- PhD in a relevant discipline including health informatics, computer science, information systems, business informatics, data science or a related discipline
- To be appointed at the grade of Senior Post Doctoral researcher, candidates must have a minimum of 2 years post PhD relevant, relative research experience
- Significant experience in database management, particularly with health data or in a clinical setting
- Strong technical skills in SQL, NoSQL, data warehousing, and data integration tools
- Significant experience of clinical coding standards (e.g. SNOMED, ICD-10, ICPC-2) and common data models (e.g. OMOP)
- Proven track record of managing data in compliance with GDPR and other data protection standards
- Excellent communication skills in English, capable of effectively interacting with a diverse group of technical and non-technical stakeholders.• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, research-oriented environment
- Project management skills: ability to ensure that project plans are communicated and that all timelines are met
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively as part of a team; is cordial, tolerant and willing to help others; is cooperative and patient; shares work and information; establishes rapport, can influence and develop effective networks
- Conscientious: has a pro-active approach to work, anticipating and resolving problems in advance; has keen attention to detail, from anticipating and addressing issues in advance to understanding requests and delivering quality work with minimal errors
- Flexibility: can operate flexibly within a busy environment, can shift focus when required
- Understanding of interdisciplinary research environments, research integrity and relevant policies as well as public engagement and outreach
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in working with health research ethics committees and understanding of ethical approval processes
- Research experience in interdisciplinary research environment, ideally in multi-stakeholder projects
- Demonstrate the involvement in public engagement activities
- Experience in engaged research and applying a design science oriented research methodology
