Covid 19 and the lessons from supply chain disruptions

 

During the current Covid-19 Pandemic, it has become evident that many industries have been significantly disrupted. We explore what lessons can be learned from disruptions in supply chains and retail.

 

Some companies have adapted quicker than others and we explore what role ways of working and technology have played during the ongoing and previous crises and what lessons may be learned from this and what the landscape may look like into the future.

Facilitator: Joan Mulvihill

As the Digitalisation Lead for Siemens in Ireland, Joan Mulvihill continues to be at the forefront of driving technology adoption in Ireland. Having held the position of CEO of the Irish Internet Association for 7 years, followed by 2 years as the Centre Director for the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce, her role at Siemens builds on Siemens’ and her deep commitment to and understanding of the needs of Irish business for their digital transformation. Digitalisation means working differently. Dr Patrick Rigot-Muller

Dr. Patrick Rigot-Müller is a lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain at Maynooth University School of Business. His research interests include Maritime Transport, Sustainable Supply Chains and Global Logistics. He is currently working on risk management models for Global Supply Chains and Maritime Transport. He has previously worked for Normandy Business School and Newcastle University (School Of Marine Science and Technology). He has published articles in conferences and peer-reviewed academic journals such as, recently, Transportation Research Part A, Energy Policy or Technological Forecasting and Social Change.

John Shaw

CIO with Primeline, the leading Brand and Logistics company with 1,000 staff John previously held senior Technology Leadership positions in excellent organisations such as Planet, Kingspan, Mainstream, Pfizer, Accenture and General Electric. John is an expert in delivering business value via practical Technology strategies.He is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, a Senior member of IEEE and a European Professional Engineer. With an MBA in Technology Management and an Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering, John is an active member of IEEE and the Innovation Value Institute. He was Chair of the Computing Division at Engineers Ireland 2012-2013.

Dr Dirk Werth

Dr. Dirk Werth is Managing & Scientific Director at AWS-Institute for Digitized Products and Processes. He has led the institute since its inception, first as Chief Advisor, then as Scientific Director and since May 2016 as Managing Director. Before that, he worked for over 12 years at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). There he took on various management tasks, was Vice President Innovation & Research Consulting and head of the Business Integration Technologies Group at the Saarbrücken and Berlin locations. He has managed and designed numerous international and national research and consulting projects, including as overall project manager and scientific coordinator.
