IVI Technology Centre Steering Committee

The IVI Research Centre is an established Enterprise Ireland/IDA Technology Centre and operates as a research centre within Maynooth University. The IVI Technology Centre carries out a programme of research and development that is guided by an Centre Steering Committee (CSC). The board is a balanced, neutral and independent Committee nominated by Maynooth University and the Centre company membership to oversee the operations and strategic activities of the Centre.

Board Members

Declan Brady (Chair)

Declan Brady graduated in Computer Science from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1986. His early career was in UNIX and open systems software development in Ireland and London, following which he worked in relational databases with Ingres Corp. During this time he completed a MSc in computer applications at DCU, collaborating with relational guru Chris Date on his thesis.

Following a substantial period with Fujitsu in solution architecture and as IT Director for EMEA, Declan has more recently branched out into IT capability and software systems quality. He completed a second MSc in IT Management at Maynooth University in 2013.

Declan represents the Irish Computer Society to the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) and to the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). He sits on the boards of both organisations. At CEPIS, Declan initiated and led the task force on IT Professionalism, which is now the focal point of CEPIS’ strategy; he now chairs the CEPIS Professional Ethics Network.

Declan is a Fellow of the Irish Computer Society, a member of the Association of Data Protection Officers, and a Chartered IT Professional. He is currently Principal Consultant at SQS working in IT Capability Improvement, and a specialist in Personal Data Protection.

Matt Craig

Matt Craig is a specialist in strategic and sustainable organizational improvement. Matt has consulted with global organizations to drive enterprise management capabilities, instil value management practices, and improve agile service delivery.
Certified and experienced in a range of disciplines, Matt engages with people at the heart of organizational change, and builds the skills and systems of teams to adapt, adopt, and win.                                               Over a ten year span as Head of Performance and Value Management for technology at BNY Mellon, Matt led a global program engaging thousands of professionals to improve capability maturity in more than 20 domains, leading to gains in internal productivity, employee engagement, vendor utilization, customer value creation, and technology business partnership.                                                                                               Today Matt serves as a Senior Manager with SDLC Partners, assisting clients overcome obstacles to value realization and performance improvement. Matt also volunteers as past-president with the Pittsburgh chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), as longhouse chief for the YMCA Y-Guides program, and serves on the industry steering board of the Innovation Value Institute.

Martin Curley

Martin is the CIO of the Health Service Executive and Chief Officer, eHealth Ireland.

He is an executive with a track record of building high-performance innovation teams and consistently delivering a strong pipeline of compelling innovations and transformations. He is a proven thought leader in the application of data to provide innovative solutions.Martin has strong experience with a deep history of working closely with the European Commission and National Governments.                                               He has strong knowledge and skill in advanced Technology and Digital/IT innovation across multiple domains, most recently Digital Payments and Finance. He is recognised as a leader in Open Innovation and is founder of the Innovation Value Institute driving scaled research and consulting engagements across multiple industries.His achievements in his career to date are many, including initiating Mastercard Advisors global Digital Practice; transformation of Intel’s IT organisation into a world class IT capability; establishing and growing a global network of 15 Intel IT Innovation centres; Transforming Intel’s research reputation in Europe while creating trusted advisor relationships at Commissioner/DG level in EU.

Alan Darcy 

Alan has over 20 years’ experience delivering solutions to Mobile Network Operators globally.

Starting his career in the Aldiscon Operations Group he supported the launch of the Iridium Satellite Network in Phoenix, Arizona. Alan spent 5 years for Aldiscon in Boston working with Tier-1 customers in USA, Canada and Mexico. Now Head of Anam’s Operations and passionate about Innovation, Alan is a member of the Innovation 24*7 Board and also a member of the Institute of Directors.

Joe Hegarty

Joe Hegarty has had a long association with the Innovation Value Institute from its inception. 

Joe is currently a Digital Strategist and Manages ESB’s Business Architecture Capability. Prior to this he has delivered value through leading large IT and Business teams in the Utility, Manufacturing, Investment Banking, Transport and Education Sectors for companies such as Intel, Bord Gais Energy and UBS. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Fergal Ryan

Fergal has many years experience in the IT industry working a variety of roles in multinationals and start-ups.

Fergal is an IT Director with Xilinx where he has responsibility for several global IT functions. These include B2B integration with key trading partners across North America, Asia and EMEA, on-premise and cloud application integration middleware, DBA function and Workload Automation. Recently, he was responsible for initiating and leading a program to take Xilinx’s Enterprise IT Architecture to the next level. Fergal is a member of the steering committee of the Irish Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, and of the Innovation Value Institute’s Industry Steering Board. Fergal has a Computer Science degree from Trinity College Dublin, is an Iasa CITA-F certified architect, and also is certified in Tier 2 of the IVI IT-CMF.
