Brian Donnellan, Vice-President and Dean of International Affairs, Maynooth University and Academic director of the Innovation Value Institute.

Brian’s extensive background in Innovation, and his recent research projects on Smart Cities and Internet-Of-Things make him a fascinating contributor to the panel: Tech driven public services in 2030. (Part of the Government 3.0 stream at The Sunday Business Post’s CIO & IT Leaders Summit) Everyone will be affected by changes in public services, so it will be interesting to hear predictions on how technology developments will change those services. Brian Donnellan is Vice-President and Dean of International Affairs, Professor of Management Information Systems at Maynooth University, Academic Director of the Innovation Value Institute and Co-Principal Investigator in the Irish Software Research Centre, where he is leading research projects on Smart Cities and Internet-Of-Things. Prior to becoming an academic, he spent 20 years working in the ICT industry where he was responsible for the provision of Engineering Information Systems to support New Product Development.

Round Table: Using DevOps to drive Digital Transformation

 

We are delighted to have some key members of our DevOps workgroup back together at The Sunday Business Post’s CIO & IT Leaders Summit, hosting a roundtable. The workgroup created the IT-CMF DevOps Effectiveness Assessment, a new assessment providing a holistic analysis of an organization’s DevOps maturity. Results are compiled into a logical and easy to understand report that identifies the key IT-CMF critical capabilities to for improvement. Laura Mc Quillan, former leader of the DevOps workgroup will lead the round table. Her extensive hands-on experience throughout the software development lifecycle has made her a strong advocate of practices and culture of DevOps and Agile and the benefits they can bring to an organization, its people and their customers. Graeme Clarke, Global Service Manager for Expleo DevOps service line, was a key contributor to the workgroup. His work for the research and development wing of Expleo’s Digital Labs gives him visibility on the challenges of digital transformation. Louise Veling is a Research Fellow with IVI and one of the co-creators of the DevOps assessment. This roundtable is an opportunity to tease out ideas about the benefits and challenges of DevOps as a conduit to a more efficient and effective organisation. Laura Mc Quillan, Agile, DevOps and Change Consultant, currently leading a transformation project at Engage Hub. 

Laura Mc Quillan has 30 years’ experience in technology organizations, working in team, management and leadership roles, and hands-on experience throughout the software development lifecycle. That experience has made her a strong advocate of practices and culture of DevOps and Agile and the benefits they can bring to an organization, its people and their customers. Laura understands the challenges and rewards in achieving continuous integration, continuous delivery, self-organizing teams and cross-organization collaboration. Her particular interest is in guiding teams and organizations through change and transformation programmes. She has worked with Financial and Telecommunication organizations, among them Telefonica, Ericsson, Bank of America, BNY Mellon and Logica. Graeme Clarke, Senior Development Manager, Expleo Digital Labs Graeme Clarke is an NI software industry veteran with over 20 years’ experience spanning development and management. He is Global Service Manager for Expleo dev-ops service line and is also responsible for the research and development wing of Expleo’s Digital Labs bringing bleeding edge technologies and platforms to their delivery centres around the world. He is a central figure in the  Expleo mission to “Transform the World through Quality” and establish them as key digital partners with their clients.

Louise Veling, Research Fellow, Innovation Value Institute Louise is a Research Fellow with the Innovation Value Institute (IVI) and a PhD candidate with the Department of Anthropology, both at Maynooth University (MU). Her research explores technology and design from an Anthropological perspective, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Prior to MU, Louise led UX, content development and product teams at a number of Digital Media companies.

Paul Goddard, Commercial Director, IVI Services

Paul is the Commercial Director for IVI, managing the entirety of the company’s sales and commerical activities, including new member acquisition, member retention through lifecycle planning, and the onboarding and development of new consulting partners across the globe. He holds a Master’s Degree in Information Systems, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and has more than 15 years’ experience in sales, account and channel management, as well as program development and implementation, in organisations such as Apple, VMware, DellEMC, and others.  Paul is currently focused on bringing IVI’s community and membership program into the digital age, building collaborative programs for the best and brightest CIOs and CXOs in Ireland, and abroad, to help solve the challenges of the digital era.
                                                                                                                                                               
 
Mary Cleary, Deputy Chief Executive, Irish Computer Society                                                                                
Mary Cleary is Deputy CEO of the Irish Computer Society/ICS Skills, overseeing certification programmes and digital inclusion policy and initiatives for more than 10 years. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education, has 20 years’ experience as a primary school teacher and extensive experience of professional programme design and implementation. She has worked on several national education initiatives, promoting ICT as a teaching and learning tool and is an active member of ECDL Foundation Expert Working Group. For the ICS, Mary manages education and skills initiatives, as well as the professional and advocacy activities of HISI (Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland), its membership and Annual Conference, overseeing the HISI academic and industry fora, which endeavour to integrate current HI research, government policy and the introduction of new healthcare technologies. She is a member of the CEN Workshop on ICT Skills, the NSAI ICT SCC, and represents the NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland) on the CEN TC 428 Project Committee. She contributes to the EU – US Standards and Interoperability Health IT Skills Workgroup. Mary is also a member of and expert advisor to the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) Global Health Workforce Council.                                                                                                                           

 

Dr. Eileen Doherty, Research Fellow, IVI @EileenDoherty72

Eileen took up the position of Research Fellow at the Innovation Value Institute in July 2011. Her areas of focus pertain to the development of IT-CMF, more specifically in the areas of Organisational Digitisation/Digital Business, Strategic Planning, Business Planning, Research Development and Engineering and User Experience Design. Prior to this position Eileen worked in the IT industry for almost 10 years in a variety of roles: as a Product and Marketing Manager for a software development company in the UK, as an IT consultant in Ireland and the UK with feasibility and commercialisation projects both in the private and the public sector. Her key area of focus was examining the feasibility of broadband technology rollout in rural areas. She has published 3 books and has published academic peer review journal papers in the area of SME broadband and cloud technology adoption. Eileen’s research interest is in the area of the SME, Innovation (particularly Internet, cloud and digital technology) adoption and diffusion, and the utilisation of such technologies and innovations in the firm. Her research interest focuses on why these technologies are adopted and further, how they are utilised by SMEs and their subsequent impact on firm performance and value creation. Additionally, she is interested in if and how broadband and/or Internet related digital technology impacts upon organisational strategy and how this contributes to the digitisation of the firm.

Sara Davidson, Head of Marketing, IVI Services

Like you, Head of Marketing and digital marketing specialist Sara Davidson has seen the changing landscape of B2B marketing defined, and redefined over the years. Is it Outbound marketing, or Inbound marketing we should be focusing on? Do we really know who we’re targeting? And are we listening to how they want to be communicated to? What do they really want from us? Trained in Marketing Strategy and Business (Bachelor of Commerce) at Auckland University New Zealand, Sara honed her traditional marketing experience starting out in Microsoft New Zealand, later moving to London where she pursued the Modern Marketing Method of Inbound Marketing working both client side and agency side. Embracing all things Digital, she later qualified as a Certified Inbound Marketing Professional from Hubspot. Sara is passionate about meeting users’ challenges with optimal, timely, and relevant marketing content – ultimately leading to engaged and loyal customers. Having recently moved to Ireland to join IVI Services, Sara is leading marketing efforts to take to IVI Services’ offerings to market.

Alan has over 20 years’ experience delivering solutions to Mobile Network Operators globally. Starting his career in the Aldiscon Operations Group he supported the launch of the Iridium Satellite Network in Phoenix, Arizona. Alan spent 5 years for Aldiscon in Boston working with Tier-1 customers in USA, Canada and Mexico. Now Head of Anam’s Operations and passionate about Innovation, Alan is a member of the Innovation 24*7 Board and also a member of the Institute of Directors.

Dr. Iris Junglas, Fulbright Scholar, Maynooth University

Iris has a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Koblenz, Germany. Iris worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, the University of Houston, and most recently the Institute for High Performance at Accenture. She has held visiting positions at the Ecole de Management in Strasbourg, France, and the Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Lausanne, Switzerland, and is a Research Fellow at the University of Liechtenstein. Her most recent research focuses on technology innovation and big data analytics.
