INNOVATION VALUE INSTITUTE CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF HELPING TO TRANSFORM BUSINESS THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

Robert Garrison, head of technology at US financial market infrastructure provider, honoured at annual Winter Summit

The Innovation Value Institute (IVI) marked its 10th anniversary at its annual Winter Summit in the Dublin Convention Centre. IVI was co-founded in 2006 by Maynooth University and Intel to help drive the transformation of technology management.

Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation, John Halligan T.D. noted: “It is a pleasure to mark the contribution that IVI has made to business in Ireland and internationally over the last ten years. Every business is now faced with the reality of disruptive technologies, and this is driving organisations to look at their IT infrastructure in an entirely new way.”

“For traditional companies, it’s not possible just to tear up their current business model and start again, but very few of them are capable of adapting without help. This is where IVI come in.  For 10 years now, they have helped companies leverage the opportunities offered by new technologies, and companies all over the world have thrived as a result.”

Discussing the organisation’s 10th anniversary, IVI General Manager and Technology Leader Martin Delaney observed: “Over the last ten years we have seen so much change and opportunity for businesses with the continued increase innovation and development in digital technology.   Industry and business leaders need to know how to capitalise on this opportunity and it has been our mission over the last decade to facilitate this.’

The event also saw Robert Garrison, Managing Director and Chief Information Officer at The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), honoured with the IVI Global Leader in IT Value Award.

DTCC is the premier post-trade market infrastructure for the global financial services industry. Discussing IT priorities at DTCC, Garrison observed: “In order to effectively support a business capable of achieving stretch goals, we needed to modernise our infrastructure while showing the value of our IT investments.  This was where our partnership with IVI was most important.”

IVI’s IT Capability Maturity Framework (IT-CMF) is the gold standard for measuring the value that IT is adding to a business. DTCC adopted the framework in order to improve its capabilities while effectively measuring and communicating the business value of IT investments. In 2014, DTCC became a patron member of IVI.

“IT-CMF encompasses everything that you need in order to optimise your IT value. The Framework allowed us to focus on several key areas that were targeted for improvement, such as accounting, automation and service provisioning. We saw significant benefits from the Framework across critical projects,” added Garrison.
